40k Wiki
Tick green.png This page is an official policy on the 40k Wiki. It has wide acceptance among editors and is considered a standard that all users should follow. When editing this page, please ensure that your revision reflects consensus. When in doubt, discuss first on the talk page.

This policy explains the steps that should be taken when policies are ignored or misunderstood.

There are three key points to remember when dealing with misconduct on this wiki.

1. Treat all users with respect. Be mature and polite when addressing any issues.
2. Clearly explain what the user did wrong, providing links to specific policies.
3. Treat all misconduct as a misunderstanding...not deliberate vandalism.

If these simple steps are followed this wiki can continue to grow.

Contacting the user

When a user has breached a policy, an admin should leave a constructive message on the user's talk page. This message should politely explain the problem and the best ways to resolve it.

A good way of explaining a problem is by using the {{policy extract}} template.

This template can be used to highlight an extract of a specific policy. This allows the user to see where they went wrong without having to read through an entire page.

Here is an example of how to contact a user after a policy breach.

Hi <user>, this is a just a quick message. I noticed that you added official artwork without crediting the artist. This actually goes against one of our policies.

Extract from Images policy.

...in the image description you must credit the artist. If you do not know the artist do not upload the artwork.

This section of the policy appears to have been overlooked. Please take a moment to read through it.

The best way to solve is this is have a quick search on google and see if you can find out which artist created the work. Thanks for your edits. -Thomas Love Star_tiny.png [talk] 17:47, June 21, 2012 (UTC)

Banning should only be a last resort, and is highly discouraged. Please read the banning policy for more information.
